Tran came to stay with me in 1985, and stayed
until he married on 21 May 1994. When he first came to stay he was
a 22 year old schoolboy. When he left he was a respected accountant
at Telecom, and he left to marry and shift into his own home with his wife.
In his time at Bracklyn, Tran was an important
part of the household. He learnt to cook from my Mother. [My
parents flat is on the 2nd floor, we live on the 4th floor]. He adapted
basic western cuisine with vegetables and sauces from Asian. We might have
roast lamb and baked potatoes, with bok-choy and oyster sauce. I
suspect that some of his ideas also came from magazines - but the food
was delicious, fun and interesting.
Life in Bracklyn has lacked something since
he left.
